Who Thrives at Adventure Pals
Children who may thrive in our program:
- Children who enjoy group activities with some flexibility to move between stations
- Children who can follow simple 1-2 step directions with visual supports
- Children who may need time to adjust to transitions but can adapt with consistent routines and advance notice
- Children who communicate their basic needs (verbally or other modes of communication)
- Children who may become dysregulated but can typically regulate with adult support
- Children who benefit from sensory breaks and quiet spaces
- Children who may have different ways of engaging with activities but can participate safely
- Children who are developing social skills and may need support with peer interactions
Children who may need a different program setting:
- Children who require consistent one-to-one support throughout the entire day
- Children who consistently struggle with the level of sensory input in a dynamic camp environment despite accommodations
- Children who are working on toilet training and need assistance
- Children who have medical needs requiring specialized training beyond basic first aid
- Children who consistently need more physical support than our staff-to-child ratio allows
- Children who may harm themselves or others when dysregulated, even with intervention
- Children who would benefit more from a therapeutic program with specialized intervention
Our Approach to Support
At Adventure Pals we recognize that every child has unique strengths and needs. We offer:
- Visual schedules and timers to support transitions
- Sensory-friendly spaces for regulation breaks
- Flexible participation options for all activities
- Social stories and visual supports for new routines
- Regular communication with families about strategies that work well for their child
- Staff trained in basic positive behavior support techniques
We believe in presuming competence in all children and adapting our program to maximize each child’s success. We are committed to ongoing dialogue with families to determine if our program is the right fit for their child.
